Liverpool FC: Ian Ayre to leave his post as CEO at the end February 2017

Ian Ayre, the CEO of Liverpool FC (Premier League), will leave his post in late February 2017, announced the club on 03/02/2017. Arriving at Liverpool FC as a sales manager in 2007, he served as CEO since 2013, and decided not to extend his mandate in this role.

The departure of Ian Ayre, planned since 14/03/2016, was originally scheduled for May 2017. The Englishman (53 years old) will join the 1860 Munich club (2.Bundesliga) at a date yet to be determined. He will be appointed the sporting director of the Munich club, according to several British media outlets. Among his duties at Liverpool FC, Ian Ayre's responsibilities included overseeing an expansion of Anfield, whose capacity was increased from 45,500 to 54,000 places in 2016-17. He also "transformed and modernised the club, leading a complete overhaul of Liverpool’s financial, commercial and operational structure," particularly during the takeover by the US investment fund Fenway Sports Group, the owner of the club since October 2010.
