"A stadium stampede in Angola claimed 17 lives and left several others injured. The unfortunate incident, described as one of the darkest days in Angolan football, happened on Friday, 10/02/2017, during the opening day of the 2017 Girabola (Angola Premier League) between home team, Santa Rita de Cassia and Recreativo do Libolo in the northwestern town of Uige," stated the CAF.

"This is a very painful moment for football and our thoughts are with the victims, their families, and all our friends from Angola who deeply suffer in these moments," said Gianni Infantino, president of FIFA, on 11/02/2017.
