Sponsorship: energy group Total becomes the title sponsor of the Copa Sudamericana for two years

French energy producer and provider Total has agreed a partnership with CONMEBOL (South American Football Confederation) to become the title sponsor of the Copa Sudamericana for the next two editions. The second round of the competition organized by CONMEBOL starts on the 14/08/2013. The deal runs until the end of the 2014 tournament.

Total replaces Japanese tire manufacturer Bridgestone, which sponsored the 2010, 2011 and 2012 editions of the Copa Sudamericana. Japanese carmaker Nissan had previously been the title sponsor of the competition between 2002 and 2010. The French oil company wants to raise its notoriety in the region through this partnership.

"We wanted to associate our brand with this great club competition. After recording excellent results for our sponsorship agreements with Boca Juniors (Argentina league) and Club America (Mexican league), we now want to increase our involvement in the world of football," said Pierre-Yves Bag, marketing director of Total in South America.
