Qatar 2022: Rummenigge welcomes "the Lego system" devised by Michel Platini to play in winter

"Michel Platini has devised a new calendar system made up with Lego bricks time periods dedicated to club competitions and others devoted to international tournaments. You only would have to move the modules around to play the 2022 World Cup in Qatar in January, then move them around again if the World Cup returns to Europe in 2026," Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told German weekly magazine Kicker on the 08/08/2013.

Since the 2022 World Cup was awarded to Qatar on the 02/12/2010, UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) President Michel Platini has been arguing that the competition must be played in winter. But he has not yet given any details about the the system detailed by Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

"There would be some three or four months for club football only, then maybe a month of national team football for qualification games and friendlies," explained Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, who is also the President of ECA (European Club Association).
