Canal+ group, exclusive holder of the Premier League broadcast rights in France for the 2013/16 period, chose to broadcast the fixtures only on Canal+ Sport, for the Premier League 2013/14 season, which starts on the 17/08/2013.

"We wanted to better expose the Premier League, because sometimes some matches were scheduled on Canal+ Sport at the same time than Italian and German fixtures, and we were always facing a dilemma choosing between the different championships, said Cyril Linette, Canal+ group Sports Director, to NTF on the 14/08/2013. Thus, we gave priority to the most promising championship on Canal+ Sport, it is both clearer and better exposed. "

"In studies conducted among subscribers, the Premier League is emerging as the number one foreign Championship, by far. (...) In this competitive environment, the Premier League has been very expensive for us. We wanted to keep it at all costs. Its cost and the customers' interest led us to look for the best possible exposure," Cyril Linette added.
