USA: Univision and Turner Sports acquire rights to the 2018-2021 Champions League ($285m in total)

The US Spanish-language broadcasting group Univision Communications Inc. and the subsidiary of the Time Warner group, Turner Sports, have acquired for the United States, the media and commercial rights to the Champions League for the 2018-2021 cycle, according to US media on 25/02/2017. The total amount of the two agreements could be $95m (€89.7m) per year. Univision would pay $35m (€33m) per year for the Spanish-language rights in Spanish and Turner Sports $60m per year (€56.7m) for the English-language rights.

The tender for the 2018-2021 cycle was launched on 12/12/2016. "The media rights for both competitions (Champions League and Europa League, will be sold on a market-by-market basis through a staggered sales process, commencing in China on 13/12/2016," The tender for the United States was launched on 12/01/2017 with the deadline for the submission of bids on 15/02/2017.
