Issa Hayatou (Cameroon), the CAF president since 1988, and Ahmad Ahmad (MAD), president of the Madagascar Football Federation, will be the two candidates for president of the Confederation of African Football (2017-2021) in the elections (item 23 of the agenda) organised as part of the Annual General Meeting in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), on Thursday, 16/3/2017.

Issa Hayatou, 70 years old, is running for an eighth term as president of the CAF. The articles of CAF adopted on 29/09/2016 now prohibit "more than three terms (of four years), consecutive or not" (Article 22, paragraph 9B), but specify that "previous mandates are not counted".

The assembly in Addis Ababa will also elect half the members of the CAF Executive Committee (item 24 on the agenda), and six members (including at least one woman) to the FIFA Council (item 25), the body which replaced the FIFA Executive Committee in the new statutes adopted on 26/02/2016 in Zurich (SUI).
