Premier League: Liverpool FC want to redevelop the training centre and academy in Kirkby by 2019

Liverpool FC (Premier League) and Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council (KMBC), the Council district of Merseyside, have organised a consultation regarding the proposed redevelopment and unification of the club's training centres in Kirkby, announced the two parties on 22/02/2017. The club wants to bring together the professional training centre, currently at Melwood, alongside its Academy, located in Kirkby, 12 kilometres from the city centre of Liverpool.

The budget for this restructuring could reach £50m (€59m). The project involves the construction of new infrastructure, redevelopment of existing buildings, and the transformation of the current main pitch to a covered field. A public consultation is scheduled on Wednesday, 08/03/2017 in Kirkby for residents and local businesses to discuss the project.

The KMBC would also renew the sporting pitches of the neighborhood where the Academy is located in Liverpool, working with Kirkby AFC (amateur club). Also planned in the project are the construction of new bike lanes, and installing new lighting and a video-surveillance system…
