British pay-TV channel BT Sport has signed over 10,000 commercial subscribers (pubs, clubs, betting shops, gyms, hotels and other commercial premises), telecommunications group BT announced, on the 16/08/2013.

BT Sport has notably signed its first commercial contract in the gaming sector with the UK’s largest independent bookmaker, Betfred. BT Sport 1 & 2, along with American sports channel ESPN, will be available in all of Betfred’s 1,370 bookmakers across the UK until the end of the 2015/16 season.

According to BT, nearly half of Britain’s 75,000 pubs and clubs are showing free-to-air sport only - that is almost one and a half times more than those who have Sky. 88% of independent pubs who do not have Sky say they would like to show Premier League football, but Sky is too expensive, based on a Sweeney Pinedo study conducted in October 2012.

BT Sport's subscription rates are based on the commercial premise's sector and on its average rateable value. The lowest price is £60 (plus VAT) per month (€70.40). BT indicates its rates are on average 75% cheaper than Sky's.
