The Briton Chris Townsend will become the commercial director of Chelsea FC (Premier League) in May 2017, announced the specialised media outlet Think Broadband on 22/02/2017. The information was not confirmed by the club, but Chris Townsend has shared the information on his Twitter account.

Chris Townsend has been the CEO of Broadband Delivery UK (British government agency to deploy internet and high-speed broadband throughout the UK) since April 2014. He left this position in April 2017, as he informed Think Broadband on 22/02/2017.

Chris Townsend was previously the commercial director of LOCOG, the Local Organising Committee for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games, between June 2006 and January 2013. In this context, he concluded nearly £2bn in commercial contracts on behalf of the organising committee (sponsorship, licensing, merchandising, ticketing, hospitality, TV rights).
