US Palermo: Maurizio Zamparini resigns presidency, new owner will be a British-American group

Maurizio Zamparini, 75 years old (born 09/06/1941), the president and owner of US Palermo (Serie A TIM) announced his resignation on 27/02/2017.

Maurizio Zamparini had previously announced, on 21/03/2016, his intention to sell US Palermo. He became the owner in 2002, while the Sicilian club were in the Serie B. US Palermo were promoted to the Serie A TIM at the end of the 2003-04 season. Founded in 1900, US Palermo had never competed in European cups before the arrival of Maurizio Zamparini at the club; between 2005 and 2012, the club has participated five times in the UEFA Cup / Europa League.

"In fifteen days, a new president will be named, to be presented at a press conference in Palermo. The new president is a member and representative of an British-American investment fund. (...) The investors will aim to return the club to the position that the city deserves, that is to say at the European level, with a project over three to five years," said US Palermo in a statement.
