AS Roma: agreement between the club and the city for the construction of the Stadio della Roma

AS Roma (Serie A TIM) and the City of Rome announced that they have reached an agreement on the construction of the "Stadio della Roma" (52,250 capacity), on 24/02/2017. The agreement provides for a reduction of 60% of the business park that was in the original project. "There will not be towers anymore, but rather low buildings, integrated into the panorama," said Virginia Raggi, mayor of Rome since 19/06/2016. This step was the final approval process for the Stadio della Roma project.

The stadium is to be built in the Tor di Valle district, southwest of Rome. The project was initiated in 2013 with delivery originally scheduled for the 2016-17 season. A first draft of the project was validated by Ignazio Marino, the then mayor of the city, on 15/06/2015. Risks associated with flooding of the area with landslides and ecological issues delayed the project, which is (outside of local infrastructure such as roads and public transport) to be fully funded the club.
