Media: the Premier League to expand on social networks in Brazil, Indonesia, Thailand and China

The Premier League has launched localised Facebook pages dedicated to the competition in Brazil, Indonesia and Thailand, and joined Chinese social network Sina Weibo (similar to Twitter), the English league announced on the 19/08/2013.

The Premier League had already launched an official Facebook page in Hong Kong, during the Barclays Asia Trophy (from the 24/07 to the 27/07/2013). The page, which provides Cantonese content, has become the biggest football page on the social media in Hong Kong.

"With the launch of different language versions on Facebook and Sina Weibo, we are now able to provide increasingly relevant content about the competition. These moves are part of our digital strategy to deliver enhanced experiences for international fans," said Premier League's Head of Marketing Craig Edmondson.

The Premier League's online presence on digital platforms at the start of the 2013/14 season:

• Facebook. The official page counts more than 6 million fans
  • three times the number at the start of the 2012/13 season
