Belgium: Anderlecht abandon its proposed move to the future Eurostadium in Brussels

RSC Anderlecht (Jupiler Pro League) have abandoned its plan to relocate from the Stade Constant Vanden Stock (21,500 capacity) to the future Eurostadium (60,000 capacity) in Brussels, announced Jo Van Biesbroeck, the operational manager of the club, on 04/03/2017. Anderlecht was initially scheduled change its home stadium in July 2019.

"We will not commit the club for a long period (30 years) to a stadium where the partners are unable to agree. It would be the worst scenario imaginable," stated Jo Van Biesbroeck in the Belgian newspaper L'Echo.

The Eurostadium will be built on parking lot C in Heysel, near the Stade du Roi-Baudouin, which will be demolished. An agreement in principle was signed between Ghelamco, the developer of the future stadium and holder a the long-term lease, and RSC Anderlecht for rent use of the stadium for an annual fee of €9.95m.
