Pay-TV: China + India will account for 80% of the Asia-Pacific subscribers in 2022

China and India will represent 80% of the projected 666 million subscribers to pay-TV services across the Asia-Pacific region in 2022. Currently, the entire region has 574.5 million subscribers, according to the extract of a study on pay-TV in Asia Pacific, and published by Digital TV Research Institute on 06/03/2017.

"China will add 40 million subscribers between 2016 and 2022, with India bringing in an extra 30 million. However, five of the 22 countries covered in the Asia Pacific Pay TV Forecasts report will lose subscribers between 2016 and 2022. Digital cable will supply 72 million of the 92 million pay TV subscriber additions between 2016 and 2022. However analog cable subscriptions will fall by 70 million - leaving cable nearly flat overall," according to the report. Analog cable will then have virtually disappeared, said the research institute.
