CIES: Chievo (ITA) oldest squad in Europe (32.1 average age), Toulouse the youngest of Top 5 (23.6)

AC Chievo Verona (Serie A TIM) are the club whose playing squad in 2016-17 has the highest average age, among the 466 clubs operating in 31 European first division leagues, according to the weekly newsletter of the CIES Football Observatory, and published on 20/03/2017.

With an average age of 32.1 years old, the Chievo Verona squad is ahead of three Cypriot clubs (AEK Larnaca, Nea Salamis, and Apollon Limassol). West Bromwich Albion (Premier League) and the Greek club Kerkyra complete list of clubs whose average age of the playing squad (including only players who have played minutes in 2016-17) since the beginning of the season is more than 30 years old.

Conversely, the Slovak club Senica has the playing squad with the youngest average: 22.24 years old. No club of the European Top 5 leagues (Premier League, LaLiga Santander, Bundesliga, Serie A TIM, Ligue 1) are represented in the top 10 clubs with the youngest average playing squads, as the highest ranked is Toulouse FC (Ligue 1), at 23.62 years old on average.
