FC Schalke 04 (Bundesliga) posted a record turnover of €265.1m for the 2016 fiscal year (from 01/01 to 31/12/2016), up €0.4, or 0.4%, compared to 2015 (€264.7m), the club announced on 15/03/2017.

This record turnover figure is mainly due to the increase of the two main sources of revenue of the club: TV rights (€76.1m, +8%) and sponsorship (€70.4m, +5%). These two increases far outweigh the decline in merchandising revenue (€10m, -13%) and catering (€11.5m, -10%).

FC Schalke 04 posted a net profit of €29.1m on 31/12/2016, up 29% year-on-year (€22.5m in 2015). Since 2010, the Gelsenkirchen club has always posted a net profit, with the exception of 2012 (net loss of €8.9m).

Schalke 04 also stated that its debt has been reduced by €16.6m, or lower by 4.7% between 2015 (debt of €146.3m) and 2016 (€129.7m). In six years, the club has reduced its debt by about €116m in total.
