Swedish broadcasting group MTG sells its Baltic operations to the US fund Providence Equity Partners

MTG has an agreement to sell its free-TV, pay-TV, and radio activities in the Baltic countries (Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia) to Providence Equity Partners, a US fund specialising in equity investments in media and entertainment (including sports), announced the Swedish broadcasting group on 17/03/2017. The amount of the transaction is estimated at €115m.

MTG owns three television channels in Estonia (TV3, TV3+, TV6), five in Latvia (TV3, TV3+, TV6, Kanals 2, LNT), and three in Lithuania (TV3, TV6, TV8). MTG notably had held the TV rights to the Premier League for the Baltic countries until the end of the 2015-16 season. MTG underlined its commitment to "move from a model of classical national broadcaster with that of a global media company focused on digital".

  • Providence Equity Partners also owns Bite, a Lithuanian and Latvian mobile operator.
