"A rapid rise in consumption of eSports and streamed games content will drive $3.5bn in revenues by 2021, up from $1.8 billion in 2017 (+95%)," stated Juniper Research, a British consulting firm for market research, in a report on changes in revenues related to eSports and streamed gaming, on 14/03/2017.

Content distribution and eSports tournaments on platforms such as Twitch (top global platform for video gaming content distribution, owned by Amazon) or YouTube will help increase revenue, including advertising, according to Juniper Research. Juniper Research also highlighted the development of the "Let's Play" videos (commentary by gamers or eSports players on video games). A phenomenon that would require companies who wish to monetise eSports to work with the streamers who post these videos to take advantage of new brand distribution opportunities.

  • The full study by Juniper Research, "eSports, 'Let's Play', & 'Watch Play': Competitive Tournaments & Content Streaming 2017-2021",is being sold at £1,990 on the firm's website.
