Argentina: Claudio Tapia, 49 years old, elected president of the Federation for 2017-2020

Claudio Tapia, 49 years old, has been elected president of the Argentine Football Association, announced the AFA on 29/03/2017. The president Barracas Central, a club in the Argentine third division, Tapia was the only candidate and received 40 votes out of 43 cast (3 abstentions), or 93% of the vote, while a simple majority sufficed. He was elected for the 2017-2020 period.

"Julio Grondona (ARG) served at the helm of the governing body for 35 years until his death in 2014. Since the chaotic 2015 election, the AFA has been run by a ‘Regularising Committee’ appointed by FIFA, the sport’s global governing body, and led by Armando Perez on a temporary basis," stated the Argentine federation. The president-elect will be assisted by Daniel Angelici, president of the club Boca Juniors, as first vice-president, and Hugo Moyano, president of the club Independiente, as the second vice-president.
