English short-term loan firm Wonga has extended its partnership with Newcastle United by becoming the main shirt sponsor of the Magpies women's team, the club announced on the 23/08/2013. The agreement runs until the end of the 2013/14 season.

This is the first time a company sponsors both men's and women's teams of an English club. Wonga, which has been a partner of Newcastle United since October 2012, pays €7m per year until the end of the 2016/17 season to act as the men's team main shirt sponsor.

"As a proud partner of the men’s team, it made perfect sense for us to extend our support to the Newcastle United women’s team. We’re delighted to support the development of the women’s game in the North East of England," said Darryl Bowman, head of marketing at Wonga.

  • To change Newcastle stadium's name back to its orginal St James Park, Wonga acquired the naming rights, on the 09/10/2012, for a period of five years and an annual fee of €1.78m. Previously, the stadium's naming rights were held by Sports Direct Arena.
