Hertha BSC (Bundesliga) presented a draft of its new stadium project (55,000 projected capacity), which should be built by 2025 in the Olympiapark, near the Olympiastadion (77,166 capacity), the current stadium of the club, on 30/03/2017. Funding for construction will be entirely private, said the club. Also retained an alternative project, nine kilometers south of the capital.

"In the Bundesliga world, which represents 95% of our matchday operations, the stadium is no longer sustainable and suitable in the long run. As a team and a medium-sized company, we do not want to carry the drawbacks of an ageing stadium that is too big," stated Werner Gegenbauer, president of Hertha BSC. The contract for Hertha to play at the Olympiastadion runs until 2025.

"The next step will see everyone work with architecture and planning office AS+P (Albert Speer + Partner) to create a manageable estimate, which will be calculated based on the site itself. Hertha BSC will then discuss the plans with the appropriate authorities and politicians," stated the club on 30/03/2017
