"Every 12 years, the beginning of a new cycle (three years) of club competitions coincides with the year of the Euro. This is the case of fiscal year 2015-16, which greatly affected the financial statements of UEFA, starting with total revenue amounting to €4.58 bn, double the previous season," said UEFA in the introduction of its 2015-16 Financial Report, presented at the 41st Congress of the European confederation, in Helsinki (FIN), on 05/04/2017.

"The enlargement of the Euro from 16 to 24 teams (hosted in France from 10/06 to 10/07/2016) increased the number of matches (31 to 51), the passion tenfold, and opened the event to more fans while having a positive impact on revenue, which reached €1.92bn, or €500m more than at Euro 2012," stated UEFA.
