Champions League: Borussia Dortmund far ahead of AS Monaco economically

At €281.3m in turnover (excluding transfers) during the 2015-16 fiscal year (from 01/07/2015 to 30/06/2016), Borussia Dortmund (Bundesliga) far exceeds AS Monaco (Ligue 1) on an economic scale, as the latter generated €77.2m in turnover (excluding transfers) in 2015-16. The two clubs meet at the Stade Louis II in Monaco, for the return leg in the 2016-17 Champions League quarter-finals (Monaco won the away leg in Dortmund 2-3) on Wednesday, 19/04/2017 (kick-off at 20:45 CET).

Including player trading activities, Borussia Dortmund reach €376.3m in total revenues in 2015-16, an increase of 36.6% over the previous year (€276m), and a new club record. On the other side, AS Monaco recorded a net gain from player trading activities amounting to €91.1m in 2016-17.

The economic gap between Borussia Dortmund and AS Monaco has increased in recent years since 2013-14, when the turnover of Dortmund was 47% higher than that of the AS Monaco (€260.7m against €176.4m). In 2014-15, the clubs posted €276m (Dortmund) and €117.4m (Monaco) in turnover.
