Match-fixing: the Court of Arbitration for Sports rejects appeals of Fenerbahçe and Metalist Kharkiv

CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) has rejected on the 08/28/2013, the appeals filed by Fenerbahçe SK (Turkey) and FC Metalist Kharkiv (Ukraine) against UEFA's (Union of European Football Associations) decision to exclude the two clubs from European competitions, due to match-fixing.

"Due to the urgency of both matters, the CAS Panels have issued their decision without the grounds. The full, reasoned awards will be issued as soon as possible," CAS indicated.

An emergency meeting of UEFA will be held on the 29/08/2013 to decide on the consequences of the exclusion of Fenerbahce from the 2013/14 Europa League. The Turkish team was eliminated by Arsenal in the Champions League play-offs, on the 21/08/2013.

For match-fixing in 2010/11, UEFA excluded Fenerbahce from all European competitions for three seasons, on the 25/06/2013, then reduced the penalty to two seasons, on the15/07/2013.
