There was a "targeted attack on the BVB Team Bus," said Gregor Lange, the chief of police of the city of Dortmund, regarding the explosions ahead of the 2016-17 Champions League quarter-final match Borussia Dortmund (Bundesliga) - AS Monaco (Ligue 1) on Tuesday, 11/04/2017.

"At 19:15 CET (on 11/04/2017), there were three explosions in the vicinity of the hotel in which the BVB team had been guests and were leaving to travel to the stadium. (Regarding the rescheduled match on Wednesday, 12/04/2017) the stadium and the surrounding area remain the focal point for police. We're preparing a major police presence for tomorrow and will do everything humanly possible to ensure the match can take place safely," stated the chief of police of the city of Dortmund.

"There was a bomb attack near the exit to the hotel. When the team bus drove from the hotel car park onto Wittbräucker Straβe, three explosive devices were detonated.
