With €228.6m in 2015-16, Club Atlético de Madrid (LaLiga Santander) recorded a turnover 32% higher than that of Leicester City FC (Premier League), which generated € 172 .1m, according to figures from the Football Money League 2017 from the audit and consulting firm Deloitte. The two clubs clash at the Vicente Calderon in Madrid in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the 2016-17 Champions League, on Wednesday, 12/04/2017 (kick-off at 20:45 CET).

In 2015-16, when Leicester City won the English top division championship for the first time in its history, the club finished 20th in Europe in terms of revenue. Never before had the English club figured in the Top 20 of the Deloitte Football Money League. In 2015-16, Leicester City posted the record high turnover amount in club history, which was also the case for Atlético Madrid.
