Bulgarian government backs Sofia's candidacy to host Euro 2020, held in 13 cities in 13 countries, Ukrainian Minister of Sports Mariana Georgieva announced, on the 08/28/2013. 12 cities will host three group matches and a knock-out game, at least. "The prime minister is personally involved in this case, the state categorically supports the BFU (Bulgarian Football Union) for the bid to host the Euro 2020," said Mariana Georgieva. "We have already had a meeting BFU president, Borislav Mihaylov. The state is aware that this is a huge challenge but we're responsible and we're adamant about our support." she added.

Vasil Levski National Stadium, located in the center of Sofia, has a capacity of 43,230 seats. It requires renovation to meet the UEFA (Union of European Football Associations) criteria.
