ExclusiveNike Academy: the brand to end its training programme at the end of the 2016-17 season

The American sports equipment brand Nike will end its Nike Academy training programme after the 2016-17 season, according to information gathered by News Tank Football on 10/04/2017.

Based in St George's Park - the technical centre of the Football Association (of whom Nike are the official supplier) - north of Birmingham (UK), the Nike Academy is made up of U-20 players without professional contracts, recruited after "Nike Most Wanted" open training sessions held around the world. The goal of the Nike Academy is to develop these players in games and friendly matches to help them land a professional contract.

"We are proud that the Nike Academy has produced over 70 full-time football professionals since its inception in 2009 through to its final season in 2017, which ends on 31/05/2017. Nike will continue to inspire and connect with footballers in new and exciting ways," said the American sports equipment brand to News Tank Football on 13/04/2017.
