UEFA: Besiktas and O. Lyonnais get suspended one-year bans from European cups due to crowd violence

"Following the incidents which occurred at the Europa League quarter-final first leg match between Olympique Lyonnais and Besiktas JK (2-1) played on 13/04/2017 in Lyon (FRA), the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) has announced" that both clubs are excluded from "the next UEFA club competition for which it will qualify. This exclusion is deferred for a probationary period of two (2) years," announded UEFA on 19/04/2017.

The kick-off of this Europa League match was delayed to about 21:50 CET instead of the scheduled 21:05, due to violence in the stands between supporters and a pitch invasion during the pre-game activities.

Both clubs were also fined by the UEFA Disciplinary Committee an amount of 100,000 euros. The return leg of the quarter-final matchup of these two clubs takes place at the Vodafone Arena in Instanbul (TUR) on Thursday, 20/04/2017 (kick-off at 21:05 CET).
