Video assistant referees: Eredivisie will use VAR from the 2018-19 season

The Eredivisie will set up video assistance for referees for all games in the 2018-19 season, announced Mike Van der Roest, head of development for the video refereeing project at the KNVB, on 19/04/2017.

Video assistance for referees has been already been used for some games in the KNVB Beker (Netherlands Cup), since the Willem II Tilburg - AFC Ajax game on 21/09/2016. In that game, the Moroccan midfielder Anouar Kali (Willem II Tilburg) became the first player to be expelled via red card following a consult between the central referee and the video assistant.

"The use of video assistance in refereeing will first be strengthened in cup matches in the 2017-18 season, before covering all Eredivisie matches the following season," said Mike Van der Roest.
