Lega Serie A: request submitted to FIFA to use video assistant referees from the 2017-18 season

"Carlo Tavecchio, president of FIGC and currently special commissioner of the Lega Serie A, has asked FIFA for permission to use video assistant referees from the first day of the Serie A championship in 2017-18 (20/08/2017)," announced the Italian Football Federation on 21/04/2017.

"Carlo Tavecchio (73 years old) has been named Special Commissioner of Lega Serie A. The FIGC president has been unanimously voted in for a period of six months by the Federal Council and has been given the power to nominate sub-commissioners," the FIGC announced on 21/04/2017. This short-term appointment follows the Lega Serie A's most recent failure to elect a president at the General Assembly of 20/04/2017 in Milan (ITA).
