The Amsterdam ArenA (54,033 capacity), where AFC Ajax (Eredivisie) plays, will be renamed Johan-Cruyff ArenA after the proposal of the board of directors of AFC Ajax, and the mayor and sports officials of the City of Amsterdam, announced the club on 25/04/2017. The name change will be effective from the 2017-18 season. City officials and aldermen also decided to name a street, a square, or a bridge in the name of Johan-Cruyff in the city.

"The mayor - at the request of the family and city administrators - discussed the desire for a change of name with the Amsterdam ArenA supervisory board and the Ajax club. The change of name is part of a set of stadium governance agreements and allocation of shares among the owners (the City of Amsterdam and the the club), " stated AFC Ajax. Johan Cruyff, born on 25/04/1947, a former player and manager of the club, died on 24/03/2016 in Barcelona (Spain).
