Liga: 61.2% of transfer spending only for Real Madrid and FC Barcelona

Out of the €381m spent by twenty Spanish Liga clubs during the 2013 summer transfer window, Real Madrid (€163.5m) and Barcelona (€70m) alone account for 61.2 % (€233.5m) of expenses. Welshman Gareth Bale's sole transfer, from Tottenham Hotspur (ENG) to Real Madrid for €91m according to the Spanish club, represents 23.8% of the Liga's total spending.

If Real Madrid were, by far the most active Spanish club (for both purchase and sale) on the market in 2013 (only AS Monaco globally spent more, with €166.2m), the Madrid club and Barcelona still show very similar transfer balances: -€49m for Real Madrid (€163.5m on spending and €114.5m on selling) - €41.9m for Barca (€70m spent on spending and €28.1m on selling).

However, the overall balance of La Liga is beneficiary: +€110.5m (€491.5m in revenue and €381m in spending).

• Behind the two big clubs, FC Sevilla have spent the most: €34m, including €7.5m for French player Kevin Gameiro, from Paris-SG.
