LaLiga Santander: FC Barcelona first club in the world to exceed 50 million fans on Instagram

FC Barcelona (LaLiga Santander) have become the first football club to break 50 million followers on the social network Instagram, on 08/05/2017. Barça are the club - across all professional sports - with the most followed on Instagram, where the club has had an account since 15/01/2013.

"The club have become the first sporting institution to reach this milestone on the social media site. In April 2017, Barça also reached 100 million fans on Facebook. These two achievements reflect Barça’s position as a leading player in the digital world," said the Catalan club on 08/05/2017.

On Instagram, FC Barcelona are ahead of Real Madrid CF (LaLiga Santander, 49.1 million followers) and Manchester United FC (Premier League, 17.6 million). FC Barcelona have more followers on Instagram than the cumulative total of the 30 NBA franchises (44.3 million), the 32 NFL franchises (27.9 million), or the 30 MLB franchises (16.7 million).
