"We did not buy fans to expand our official Facebook page of the 2014 World Cup," said Delia Fisher, FIFA's (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) media manager to NTF on the 03/09/2013.

FIFA has launched a Facebook page dedicated to the 2014 World Cup on the 30/10/2007. "2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil" gathered, on the 03/09/2013, more than 1.2 million subscribers. 270,000 "likers" have joined the page since the 11/08/2013, when the account was reactivated by FIFA. Most represented subscribers are from Dhaka, Bangladesh, a country known for harboring companies providing fans on social networks. This practice implies to pay companies for increasing the number of subscribers, often through fictitious accounts.

"We have no interest in artificially expand our number of subscribers on social networks. We are in a more logical engagement with our fans. We use Facebook as a means of communication and not as a marketing tool," said Delia Fisher.
