FC Barcelona: the club to have a professional women's team in the United States in 2018

FC Barcelona (LaLiga Santander) have announced a plan to create a women's football team in the United States, to be a part of the NWSL (National Women's Soccer League), on 16/05/2017.

The main outcome of this plan will be to establish a presence of a team from Barcelona in the NWSL, a professional league created in 2012 which currently has 10 franchises, and is the top women's division in the US.

Barça are expected to join the NWSL for the 2018 season, which will start in April 2018. The Catalan club is yet to reveal where the team will play its home games. The cities of New York, San Francisco, and Los Angeles are mentioned by several sources throughout Spanish media.

• FC Barcelona opened an office in New York (USA) on 06/09/2016, its second overseas branch after an office in Hong Kong (China).
• "This new office will serve as an anchor in order to develop commercial networks with the American market, and therefore increase revenue of FC Barcelona," said the club.
