Laura Flessel, 45 years old, has been appointed as the French Minister of Sports on 17/05/2017. The former two-time Olympic gold medalist in fencing (Atlanta, 1996) replaces Patrick Kanner, the former Minister of Sports, who was also the outgoing Minister of the City and Youth, and also Thierry Braillard, who was the French Secretary of State for Sport.

Laura Flessel, the flag-bearer of the French Olympic team at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympic Games in London (United Kingdom), has already been a part of the Ministry of Sports, having been president of the Ethics and Sport Values Committee for the Ministry of the City, Youth, and Sports from April 2012 to September 2016.
