Champions League: progression of the audiovisual rights in the European Top 5 countries

The French telecommunications conglomerate SFR Group will pay around €350m per season for all the TV rights, valid in France, to the Champions League and the Europa League for the 2018-2021 cycle, according to multiple sources on 11/05/2017. The price of the TV rights of the European Cups in France would thus be multiplied by 2.12 compared to the previous cycle. In the 2015-2018 period, Canal+ and beIN Sports jointly paid an estimated amount of nearly €140m per year for the TV rights in the Champions League in France.

The TV rights to the Champions League have also increased in the United Kingdom, where the amounts are the highest in the European Top 5 countries. BT Sport has acquired the rights to maintain its exclusive broadcasting rights to the Champions League for the 2018-2021 period, announced the British pay-TV group on 06/03/2017. BT will pay £394m per year (€456.2m) in the period, an increase of 31.8% from the previous cycle, said the British pay-TV channel.
