Facebook has acquired the broadcasting rights, in the United States, for 20 games of the 2017 MLB season, on 18/05/2017. These broadcast rights will allow the American social media network to broadcast one live baseball game per week, every Friday, via the live video streaming platform Facebook Live.

The broadcast will be available for free on the MLB's Facebook page (facebook.com/MLB) for all viewers, with the exception of the local market of the two teams concerned.. Cincinnati Reds - Colorado Rockies (6-12) was the first game that was broadcast via Facebook Live on 19/05/2017.

“Baseball games are uniquely engaging community experiences, as the chatter and rituals in the stands are often as meaningful to fans as the action on the diamond. By distributing a live game per week on Facebook, Major League Baseball can re-imagine this social experience on a national scale", said Dan Reed, head of global sports partnerships at Facebook, on 18/05/2017.
