"UEFA is shocked by last night's attack in Manchester (ENG). Our thoughts are with the victims and the families of those affected," stated the European confederation on 23/05/2017.

At 22:35 local time (23:35 CET), an explosion occurred at the Manchester Arena near the end of a music concert by the American performer Ariana Grande. According to Greater Manchester Police, the attack was carried out by a lone attacker using an improvised explosive device, and who was killed in the explosion. As of the morning of 23/05/2017, 22 people died in the attack, with a further 59 persons injured.

The attack on the Manchester Arena was "the most horrific incident" the city has ever faced, according to Greater Manchester Chief Constable Ian Hopkins.
