Champions League: OGC Nice move up to play-off round if Ajax win the 2016-17 Europa League

If AFC Ajax (Eredivisie) win the 2017 Europa League final (against Manchester United at the Friends Arena in Stockholm (SWE) on Wednesday 24/05/2017, kick-off at 20:45 CET), the Amsterdam club will directly qualify into the group stage of the 2017-18 Champions League, which will then free up a place in qualifying play-off round, which would go to OGC Nice (Ligue 1), indicated UEFA to the Agence France Presse on 22/05/2017.

OGC Nice (3rd in Ligue 1 in 2016-17) are currently qualified for the 3rd qualifying round of the 2017-18 Champions League. AFC Ajax finished second in the Dutch top division, qualifying the Amsterdam club for the 3rd qualifying round of the 2017-18 Champions League.

The winner of the Champions League is qualified for the group stage of the next edition, regardless of the club's final position in its domestic league, according the UEFA regulations.
