Europa League: Manchester United 6.5 times stronger than AFC Ajax on the economic front

With €613.2m in 2015-16, Manchester United (Premier League) posted a turnover 6.5 times higher than AFC Ajax (Eredivisie), which generated €93.39m, ahead of the 2016-17 Europa League final between the two clubs at the Friends Arena in Stockholm (Sweden), on Wednesday, 24/05/2017 (kick-off at 20:45 CET).

The economic gap has widened in favour of Manchester United in 2015-16, with the English club's advantage over Ajax increasing from €451.8m (€557.23m compared to €105.4m) In 2014-15, to a €519.8m difference in 2015-16. Manchester United are the top European club in terms of 2015-16 revenue, while Ajax are outside the European Top 20 clubs established by the Football Money League 2017 from the British auditing and consulting firm Deloitte.

• Sponsorship revenues are the income source where Manchester United hold the largest difference compared to the Dutch club, with €190.51m in 2015-16, compared to €26.72m for Ajax (+€163.79m).
• In terms of TV rights, the advantage is also strongly on the side of Manchester United, with €167m in audiovisual income compared to €12.3m for Ajax…
