Bundesliga and Ligue 1, only major championships where the share of foreign players decrease

Among the five major European leagues (Premier League, La Liga, Bundesliga, Serie A and Ligue 1), only the Bundesliga and Ligue 1 have known, since the 2009/10 season, a decrease in the percentage of foreign players.

The German league has seen its share of foreign players decrease by 7.1% in five years. At the same time, the French championship had a 1,3% decrease.

In contrast, the largest increase is for Italian Serie A, where the share of foreign players has grown by 13.8% since 2009/10. La Liga (+7.1%) and Premier League (+4.8%) also saw their percentage of foreign players increase. The English Premier League remains the European Championship where the rate of foreign players is the highest, with 69.5% of the players.

Among the major European clubs, Inter Milan (Serie A) have the highest rate of non-national players (82.1%). In contrast, Olympique de Marseille (66.7%) and Olympique Lyonnais (78.8%) are the two clubs less open to foreigners.
