Angel Maria Villar Llona, president of the RFEF since the summer of 1988, has been re-elected for the 2017-2020 period during the general assembly meeting held in Madrid (ESP) on Monday 22/05/2017. He has thus begun his eighth consecutive term at the head of the Spanish Football Federation.

Angel Maria Villar Llona won with 112 votes (11 blank votes and 6 invalid votes) of the 139 voters of the general assembly.

Angel Maria Villar Llona had no opponent. Former RFEF general secretary Jorge Pérez, a candidate for a short time, finally refused to stand, denouncing possible irregularities in the process of elections with correspondence to the members of the general assembly in charge of electing the president.
