Santiago Bernabeu: Madrid City Council validates the renovation plan to the Real stadium

The Madrid City Council has validated the project to renovate the Santiago Bernabeu (80,000 capacity), which will include the construction of a roof, on 30/05/2017.

"The Sustainable and Urban Development Committee has given its green light to the plan to renovate the Santiago Bernabeu and its surroundings, and the project will be placed on the agenda of the Madrid City Council on 30/05/2017 for final adoption," announced the Madrid City Council on 24/05/2017.

The work will begin in the summer of 2017, and will continue during the summers of 2018 and 2019, not disturbing the sporting seasons of Real Madrid CF (LaLiga Santander), which has been hosting their games at the Santiago Bernabeu since 1947. The renovation plan, costing in the region of €400m, will allow the stadium to have a commercial zone and a hotel included.

The work will have an impact on about 90,000m2 around the Santiago Bernabeu, including 37,000m2 of public space to be refurbished, with costs borne by the club (€13m). The stadium will then be 60 metres high (instead of the current 48 metres), with the construction of…
