FIFA: qualification to the 2018 World Cup in Russia resumes for the UEFA zone on 09/06/2017

With the majority of the 2016-17 European club football season completed, the sport shifts its attention to the summer international football calendar for June 2017.

In UEFA, five of the 10 group round matchdays for qualification to the 2018 World Cup in Russia have already been completed. One matchday will be played across Europe from 09 to 11/06/2017. Two additional group round matchdays will take place from 31/08 to 05/09/2017. The two remaining group round matchdays are in October 2017, with the play-offs between the best ranking second place teams for the final four UEFA slots to the 2018 World Cup in November 2017.

These four play-off winners will join the nine group winners and hosts Russia as the 14 European national teams present at the 2018 World Cup.

Additionally, the 2017 Confederations Cup takes place in Russia from 17/06 to 02/07/2017. From UEFA, European champions Portugal join hosts Russia alongside Mexico and New Zealand in Group A. While current world champions Germany will compete in Group B with Australia, Chile, and Cameroon.
