UEFA country coefficient: France ranked 4^th for the 2016-17 season, highest since 2003-04

"As a result of the success their clubs achieved in the two major European competitions (Champions League and Europa League), France have reached the best ranking (member association, or "country", coefficient ranking) since 2003-04," said UEFA on 06/06/2017.

France (14.416 points on average per club) rank 4^th, behind Spain (20.142), England (14.928), and Germany (14.571), but ahead of Italy (14.250).

"France started the 2016-17 season with six clubs in the European competitions: four went past the group stages and two reached the last four (AS Monaco in the Champions League and Olympique Lyonnais in the Europa League), which helped them end the year in fourth place, ahead of Italy, who still lead the overall five year ranking which is taken into account when the draws are made. For a single season, this is the best performance from the Ligue 1 since 2003-04 (France were 2^nd behind Spain), the year AS Monaco (Champions League) and Olympique de Marseille (Europa League ) reached the finals," added UEFA.
