Major League Baseball: the Facebook and Twitter communities of the franchises (June 2017)

The 30 franchises of the MLB have a cumulative 57.3 million fans on the social network Facebook as of 07/06/2017, an average of 1.9 million fans per team for the North American professional baseball league. By comparison, the 20 Ligue 1 clubs have 47.2 million Facebook fans (21.4% less than the MLB franchises), an average of 2.36 million per club (24.2% higher than a MLB franchise).

MLB franchises have twice as many fans on Facebook than followers on Twitter, the micro-blogging platform (28.35 million), as of 07/06/2017, or 945,003 on average for each of the 30 francises. These amounts are 20% higher compared to the Twitter followers of the 31 NHL franchises (23.6 million total, or 760,020 on average per team).

The New York Yankees, the team with the most MLB titles (27 time "World Champions"), dominate the Facebook fan rankings (8.5 million) and Twitter followers (2.36 million) within the league. The Yankees total 15% of the cumulative Facebook fans of the Major League Baseball franchises.
