Eintracht Frankfurt: standing space to replace luxury boxes to increase stadium capacity (61,000)

Eintracht Frankfurt (Bundesliga) will be expanding the area for standing space at the Commerzbank Arena (51,500 capacity) by replacing certain existing luxury boxes in order to increase the stadium's capacity to 61,000 seats (+18.4%). "Our fill rate is very high (95%, or 49,165 spectators on average) this season (2016-17), and it is sometimes possible to find empty seats usually with the expensive tickets and the guest area of the stadium. This will change with our project which will give access for new and young people to the Commerzbank Arena," said Axel Hellmann, member of the board of directors of Eintracht Frankfurt, on 30/05/2017.

This decision is aimed to adapt to the growing demand for seats from the club's supporters (27,000 subscribers in 2016-17) and to increase the capacity of the stadium without going through expansion work that will impact the roof of the Commerzbank Arena.

The reconstruction work will affect the northwest part of the stadium, which currently includes a lower tier of approximately 8,000 standing places, separated from the grand stand by boxes. To free…
